MEGUIAR’S MOTOREX
A big announcement about Motorex’s future almost overshadowed the amazing cars on show
IT’S the biggest and arguably best show of its kind in Australia, but as the curtain closed on the 2017 running of Meguiar’s Motorex, Motoractive Managing Director Bruce Morrison took the stage to deliver some important news. From 2018 onwards, Motorex would be under new management.
The event has been sold to Out There Productions – the Andy Lopez-fronted business that owns and runs Street Machine Summernats. “We knew the show could go a lot further, but we can’t do it on our own,” Bruce said. “We want to stay involved in it, but we now have a new partner. We think that combined we can do a much better job with someone who runs events, [and] we will stay on as the major sponsor, involved in all the marketing.”
As perhaps the second most important event on the Aussie street machining calendar, a change of ownership for Motorex is a very big deal, and its new owner is particularly excited about the event’s future.
“Bruce spoke to us about six months ago about doing something,” Andy said. “He felt they had taken Motorex as far as they could on their own and were looking for someone to partner with to take it to the next level. We reckon the show is really important for the Australian car scene. It is the biggest and best of its kind; there is nothing else like it. So we’ve got involved by buying the event, so we can bring some fresh ideas to it and do all the heavy lifting that is required to make it happen. Bruce, Owen Webb and the Motoractive crew will stay involved as the naming rights sponsor and do what they do best – curating the show and bringing the best cars to the event.”
