> YOUR GUIDE TO DRAG CHALLENGE WEEKEND 2019, AUSTRALIA’S TOUGHEST THREE-DAY STREET CAR TEST

-

WE’RE back, baby! For the second year running, our shortened version of Drag Challenge, Drag Challenge Weekend, will be returning to Queensland in early May. Much like last year, the racing will take place over three days, 4-6 May, but this time we’ll have a sign-in and scrutineering day on Friday 3 May, with racing starting Saturday and finishing on the Monday public holiday.

Both the sign-in day and Day One racing will take place at Willowbank Raceway, before the circus heads to race at the eighthmile Warwick Dragway on Sunday and then back to Willowbank on Monday. Don’t be fooled though – just because DCW is a shorter affair than the main five-day Drag Challenge, it doesn’t mean it’ll be any easier. DC mastermind Scott Taylor has planned a mandatory road route that’ll see competitors drive around 700km in total. That will sort ’em out!

And we’re introducing a couple of new classes too. There are two new radial classes – Tuff Mounts 235 Radial Blown and 235 Radial Aspirated – plus the new XR6 Turbo Developments Six-cylinder class, which is open to any two-wheel-drive six-cylinder car running 275 radials or smaller.

“We’ve had trophies for the quickest 235 radial blown and aspirated and sixcylinder cars in the past, and they’ve been competitive to the point that we reckon the time is right for them to be fully fledged classes in their own right,” Scotty says. “We thought they would be popular, and as soon as we opened up the entries, we could see that it was going to work. They are going to be awesome classes; that’s for sure.”

Costs for the weekend of fun are $350 for competitors. All you need is a car that can

do better than a 12.99 down the quarter and has street registration. If you just want to come along for the weekend and watch, it’s $20 for adults, and kids 13 and under get in for free.

Entries are still open, so if you’re keen, head to our website or shoot us an email at streetmachine@bauer-media.com.au.

WE’D like to thank all our sponsors who make a crazy event like this possible: Turbosmart, Haltech, Tuff Mounts, XR6 Turbo Developments, K&N Filters and Pacemaker Headers. We couldn’t run these events without these guys, so support them if you can.
