BULLET POINTS
SOMETIMES all it takes is a great sponsor livery to forever cement a race car in people’s brains. Take Russell Ingall’s old ‘Silver Bullet’ VT Commodore V8 Supercar, for instance. Much like Craig Lowndes’s ‘Green-eyed Monster’ AU Falcon, Ingall’s Silver Bullet from the 2000 Supercars championship didn’t actually enjoy that much success, but the Castrol-sponsored VT is still remembered to this day. The car has recently undergone a full resto at its original home at Perkins Engineering, and is now for sale for an eye-watering $500,000. We shared the news on our Facebook page; here’s what you had to say.
Andrew Swane – One owner, only driven on weekends.
Stephen Faunce – Never been driven hard, old lady owner.
Benjamin Parnell – One female owner, nonsmoker.
Ben Thatcher – Well looked after, highway kms only, very economical family car.
Graham Robinson – I’ll offer a pack of Winnie blues and four VB stubbies.
Adam Reeves – I’ll bid two Centrelink payments, one-third of a VB tallie and one gram of shard, but only if it single-pegs.
Daniel Vose – Swaps for a VN five-speed with a welded diff.
Steve Deli – Good luck is all I can say. $500,000 – it would want to have gold on board. I can’t see the money or the value. I would rather buy five $100,000 cars. It’s only for the rich people, belongs in a museum.
Richard Waight – It’s Ingall’s? I’ll give you a slab of Great Northern for it.
Mark Walters – $500,000 is a bit rich I would have thought. But if I could actually race it, it would be worth it.
Dean Engwirda – I wouldn’t pay half a million for Russell Ingall himself.
Ian Johnston – 11th at Bathurst and ninth in the championship – yeah nah.
Doug Mcnaboe – I’ll give them a fish tank and a six-pack of VB.
K.J. Williams – A VT SS is worth $4000$6000. I’ll pay him triple that – $15,000 – and call it a deal.
Jarred Brock – For $500,000 I could buy every VT left in the country.
Gareth Evans – $500,000! Is that because it’s the only VT with a petrol cap?
Paul Spriggs – Considering Supercars cost a million bucks to build, it’s a drop in the bucket. You can pick AU race cars up for $600,000.
Te Rauhi Card – $500,000! Fine, $650 cash money in your hand – that’s the highest I’ll go.
Jason Crompton – Peter Brock sold his black VX for $250,000. It cost $400,000 to build.
Jerome Pulham – Does it have a fuel flap?
Andrew Overton – Does it come with a warranty?
Darryl Mcneill – For the people who haven’t seen it up close, you would think it was built yesterday.
Rob Gts – The question is, does it mang?
Mikayla Callcott – Oh my gosh, my all-time favourite car!
Otis Kanga Nickolas – A great racing car, that’s for sure.
