ORANGE SLICE

HI THERE, I know this is probably a long shot, but I’m certain my dad’s car was featured in Street Machine years ago. His name was Don Fitzsimmons from Moree, NSW. Dad passed away 20 years ago, and I would love to find the story and one day maybe even find the car. It was a bright orange 1948 Ford Anglia. Dad built it from a shell, probably about 1979-1980. Do you think you might be able to help me?

Heidi Ruttley, email HEY there Heidi, the Anglia was featured in the July/august 1986 issue (right). At that time it was owned by John Portelli and ran a naturally aspirated 351 Windsor up front. Your dad gets a mention in the yarn: “Don Fitzsimmons first built Orange Tango in ’82 and ran it for a couple of years [before] John bought it to replace Nitro [his XY Falcon ute].” As for tracking down a copy of that issue, ebay is your best bet. – Broads
