Street Machine

’DORE DASH

-

HEY guys, here are a few photos of my manual 2007 VE SS-V Commodore (above). She is currently cammed with a BTR Stage Three cam and supporting mods, and makes roughly 475hp naturally aspirated. She has recently been ’bagged at all four corners and given a boot installation. All the work was done by Gricey’s Workshop Automotive Specialist, with tuning by LS Tuning & Performance Centre.

I absolutely love laying her flat and everyone just admiring the car and coming for a chat, and I’d be honoured if it made the cut in Street Machine.

MODEL CITIZEN

HEY SM, remember Biante’s ‘street machine’ series of model cars? They did some sweet stuff like an XY sedan with twin carbs, a blower and big wheels, and an LC GTR with a shotgun scoop and harnesses inside.

Well, I reckon I’ve come up with the next big idea – a Biante/street Machine collaboration! Imagine being able to buy a detailed version of Howard Bell’s LX, Peter Sauer’s Brougham, or even Simon Major’s Disturbia van. It wouldn’t cost a mint to modify existing model shells, and I’m sure most owners would love to get onboard.

So what do you say? It’s as close to the real thing as many of us will ever get.

IN LIKE FLYNN?

IT’S a shame to see Flynn’s Wrecking Yard probably going away. There’s just so much history tied up in the place, but I guess nothing lasts forever. Kudos to Glenn Torrens for his efforts to document the place (see streetmachine.com.au), plus his rescue of the two early Commodores.

That brings me to my suggestion. Perhaps Scotty and the Carnage boys could drag something from the yard. It could be something simple like an older Commodore or Falcon, or something stupid, aka Pommy.

It’d make for great viewing with a cool story to match, rather than just a car picked up from Facebook Marketplace or a random auction.

WORD OF WARNING

JUST wanted to put a warning out to prospective car buyers on Facebook and vent my spleen in the process.

I recently saw a nice 302 Windsor-powered ZD Fairlane for sale out in Margaret River for $12K. Of course it’s too good to be true, but the seller still got heaps of comments and messages about the car before somebody twigged that the pics were from an old Just Cars listing. They probably weren’t in a foreign country either, which somehow pissed me off more.

All it takes is one person to be a bit too enthusiastic in trying to snap up a bargain, and the scammer makes off with somebody’s hardearned. So buyer beware, and never fork over cash until somebody sees the car in person.
