CRAZY TIMES

-

FORGET AFL or NRL; our favourite sport of late has been watching classic car auctions. In the current climate, anything and everything has been coming out of the woodwork to hit the blocks, with sellers hoping to score a quick buck in a hot market. Recently, this rusty, beaten-up but genuine V8 VH SL/E came up for auction at Grays. We shared it on our Facebook page, and at the time bidding was at $17,000, but it went on to sell for $20K. Here’s what you had to say about it.

Craig Harrison – Just a shitty old Commodore with rust.

Cameron Southall – I like how they detailed the tyres and mudflaps – looks mint.

John Gallo – Worth $1.2 million, it’s

original!

Josh Tomney – That will fetch $35K fairly easily. It’s already almost halfway there and the good bidding is always at the end. You’ll be surprised.

Lorddaniel Pisano – The world’s gone

mad!

Ray Hastie – If that doesn’t go for at least $40K I’ll be surprised.

Anthony Hunt – How about a meat pie and a half-eaten Cherry Ripe, final offer. Simon Pedley – We’ve got a February ’79 VB sitting out back collecting dust. It’ll be ripe in a few years to move on by the looks of this!

Geoff Brehaut – Got that $25K barn-dust

premium on it.

Pete Moltran – How’s about someone pays me five bucks to take that piece of crap!

Greg Bõürke – Someone is bidding about $17K too much.

Martin Costa – I didn’t know Camira

came out in a V8.

Paul Mathews – They were garbage new, so this is 38-year-old garbage. Ibrahim Kadic – Worth about 30 bucks in scrap, but someone will pay $25K and be proud that they own it.

John Fawke – I hope it goes to a good home and doesn’t get stripped for parts. Lu Ke – I’ll start the bidding with one warm can of VB and a half-smoked Winnie Blue. Alex De Blasio – Geez, not even a power pack car!

Peter Dunkin – Has to be worth $125,000 minimum.

Brian Mills – They were junk then and they are still junk. How could there not be a person with a good memory of these pieces of junk?

Cade Webster – Brian Mills, you’re obviously a Ford man – at least the door handles work. They were decent cars for their time. The SL/E two-tone is iconic, very sought-after these days.

Mopar Joe – People have got more money than brains still, it seems!

Simon Mok – It looks like a piece of crap. The only things worth anything is the wraparound rear bumper and the 5.0-litre donk. Peter Morice – Fark! They are not jousting

sticks!

Steve Duic – Buff it hard enough and it’ll come up as a build #7 Phase III GTHO! Chris Mac – When did we stop crushing these?

Braudy Littleford – Just because it’s old doesn’t mean it’s worth anything. People seem to have forgotten this.
