Movember has arrived

- BY HOT FM HOST GABI ELGOOD

When it comes to facial hair on guys I personally think a bit of stubble is hot, and I have a soft spot for a full beard, but it takes a very special person to pull off a moustache. While I’m not a fan of the ‘mo, having something so out of fashion growing from everyone’s upper lip literally shoves Movemeber in your face, giving no choice but to think about the message behind the campaign. Yes, from a selfish single girls’ perspective, Movember makes it a tough gig on a night out — I find myself trying to mentally erase the ‘mo to figure out if I would be attracted to the guy for the other 11 months of the year.

However, I agree Movember is in support of an amazing cause that needs to be championed.

Not only does the foundation raise money to aid in research and the development of programs to help improve mens health but it raises awareness to encourage men to take charge of their own health.

Regular doctors’ checks (no, every three years is not regular), mental health care and physical activity are all important to live a happy, healthy life and men can sometimes avoid these things because of the stigma around asking for help, and this needs to change.

That said, I encourage everyone to get involved in the month of Movember because, when you put it into perspective, you’ll only have to look like White Goodman from Dodgeball, a seedy super villain or an adult film star for one month, which is a small price to pay.

And ladies, I’ve found if you squint from a distance and hold one finger horizontally over the ‘mo, it’s easier to see the potential come December — you’re welcome!
