THE LUCKY PAIR

ANDREW AND ATHENA ENJOYED THEIR WEDDING WITHOUT A HITCH

- BY ELLIE HUGHES

I got down on one knee and surprised her with a ring ... When she got over her shock, she said yes.

Luck seems to be always on the side of Athena Inocentes and Andrew Backhouse in their relationship, as they pull off impressive feats like avoiding a 90 per cent chance of rain on their wedding day.

The couple met at the University of Southern Queensland and their relationship has been filled with similar lucky occurrences up to their wedding day on January 14 this year.

They were together three years before their marriage, but Andrew says it was only three weeks into dating that he knew Athena was ‘the one’.

“I got down on one knee and surprised her with a ring,” Andrew says.

“When she got over her shock, she said yes.”

They are fortunate to have found each other in this wide world, and to have gone on to be happily married.

The finest example of their good luck is their wedding day, that went off without a hitch.

The outdoor wedding day was filled with family and friends and ended up being a heatwave despite the unfortunate predictions for rain.

The couple’s reception was done in a classical style at All Seasons Function Centre and the bride wore a lovely handmade dress from the Philippines.

Their wedding rings were custom-made with each other’s names engraved, and they wrote their own vows for the personal touch.

The highlight of the pair’s evening was the money dance, which is a wedding tradition in the Philippines, in which the couple danced and the guests pinned money to their clothing.

All the details of the wedding came together for a wonderful event, due to meticulous planning and surely a little of their special luck.
