Balance the key to healthy living

MAINTAIN OPTIMAL HEALTH BY HAVING A SCHEDULE AND KEEPING RECORD OF DAILY INTAKE

- BY SAMUEL OSBORNE

Every great athlete knows that you need to properly take care of your body in order to receive the best physical feedback and training results over a short or long period of time.

This means eating properly, stretching before and after workouts, staying hydrated, not overworking your muscles, understanding your limits and getting plenty of rest.

REST AND RECOVERY IS KEY

When it comes to exercise, overworking your body is the first mistake.

If you are constantly in the gym, your energy levels will diminish, causing a decrease in performance, because your muscle glycogen needs to be replenished.

Muscle glycogen is the primary fuel source in your muscles.

When you put stress and pressure on your muscles in order to initiate gains, your muscle fibers will become damaged.

The process of rest and recovery stimulates muscle growth.

When you train too frequently, you run the risk of damaging and putting stress on your body, along with exhaustion, irritability, fatigueness or even injury.

However, when you start undertraining, your muscles begin to breakdown instead of building yourself — something you don’t want happening.

EXERCISE BREAKOUTS

Once you’ve grown out of your teen years, you may think that you’ve grown out and finished with breakouts.

Acne problems can emerge from numerous reasons such as hormonal changes, stress, pollution and simply using the wrong facial products.

Did you know that running or exercise could be the culprit for your breakouts?

When sweating, blocked pores from sunscreen, continuous friction and gym sanitation meet, triggering inflamed hair follicles, causing acne flare-ups.

Acne spots can usually be found around on parts of the body where clothing, headbands, wristbands and watches are located.

There are many ways around acne breakouts such as removing any sweaty clothing immediately after workouts.

Choose activewear that minimises friction and doesn’t rub against your skin and remove makeup or sunscreen that could possibly clog your pores.
