With the hectic pace of modern life, it’s often hard to take the time to rest, relax, and recuperate.

Most of us are faced with stress on a day-to-day basis, whether it be physically, emotionall­y or spirituall­y. It’s no wonder that many people find it difficult to fall asleep at night, suffer from poor sleep, or wake up feeling tired and flat. This issue is even more relevant when we travel. Squeezing in a quick power nap cannot only help recharge your energy levels but also improve the condition of your skin.

Whether you’re on a plane, train or boat, the following tips will help you wake up looking and feeling better.

SWITCH YOUR WATCH TO THE TIME OF YOUR DESTINATIO­N WHEN YOU BOARD

This will help you adjust to your holiday time, by eating and sleeping at better times.

PREPARE THE SPACE

Are you feeling too cool? Too hot? Is it too bright? Or too noisy? If temperatur­e is a concern, consider packing a jumper or scarf. If it’s too light, perhaps a silk eye mask might help. If you’re travelling on a noisy plane or train then invest in a good pair of ear plugs. It might sound over-the-top, but these little additions can make a profound difference to the quality of your sleep, and consequent­ly how you look and feel after that quick nap.

THINK ABOUT TAKING YOUR OWN MEALS, OR AT LEAST SNACKS

Healthy salads or sushi can be a good alternativ­e to salt and fat-laden airplane meals, especially if you are on a special diet.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE HEALING BENEFITS OF AROMATHERA­PY

Essential oils have been used for thousands of years and can easily be integrated in to daily life via means of an oil burner, adding a couple of drops to warm bath water, applied to the skin in a carrier oil such as jojoba, grape seed or rosehip oil, or sniffed straight from the bottle.

HYDRATE FROM THE INSIDE

Before shutting your eyes for a quick nap, drink a glass of purified water, and upon waking do the same.
