LIFE GETS EASIER AT OAK TREE
Lorraine Sargood had the right idea when she moved into Oak Tree Retirement Village at Toowoomba.
She recruited two close friends to join her and within weeks the trio were enjoying a relaxed and independent lifestyle in the friendly gated community.
Sixty-nine-year-old Lorraine and her husband Mark had cattle properties at Tambo and Augathella in western Queensland. She loved the country lifestyle but felt adrift when Mark died six years ago.
“We had been married for 46 years and together for 50,” Lorraine said.
“Losing him was a big blow because we had a great marriage.
“I was too frightened to stay on my own so I sold my house and shifted to another big place.”
Lorraine started thinking about making another move when her friend talked about moving closer to medical sevices
“I had seen an advertisement for the Oak Tree open day in Toowoomba and suggested going to have a look,” Lorraine said.
“We were impressed and both felt we could happily live in the retirement village.
“Another friend had lost her husband around the same time as me so I told her about Oak Tree too.
“The three of us paid deposits and moved in around the same time 18 months ago.
“We love it here because it is just like being on a permanent holiday. We can’t speak highly enough of the village and don’t feel cramped or hemmed in.
“The other residents are lovely and made us feel very welcome. The manager and staff are just terrific
and I can truthfully say I am 200% satisfied.”
“I enjoy travelling and look forward to heading out in the car,” she said.
“When I am away the staff at Oak Tree take care of everything. I don’t have to wonder about what is happening with the mail or if the garden is being watered.
“My children think Oak Tree is the best thing ever because they know I feel safe and sound.
“I feel happy here and can go off to bed without a worry in the world. I made the move, you can too!”
