COLOUR, OH MY!

THE SMOKY EYE BACK – WITH A TWIST

-

There’s something for almost everyone with this year’s make-up trends! On one side of the spectrum, soft and feminine colours are in – think rose pink lipstick, dewy highlights, gentle pink blush, and smoky sand-coloured eyeshadow.

On the other side is a more notable look, with bold accent pieces. Retro-esque clumpy, heavy lashes will be seen everywhere. To get the look, brush your mascara over your lashes several times and optionally add some bold fake lashes as well.

Eyebrows this year take an interesting turn into the world of brushed-up brows.

While those of us with thick or bushy eyebrows can carry off this trend without any additions, those with thinner brows may like to add some pencil to complete the look.

The smoky eye that was everywhere in 2016 has made a comeback, but with a twist.

Black or light, sand-coloured shadows are used around the entire eye – bottom and top – or less commonly, just one simple smudge in the corner of the eye near the bridge of the nose.

Eyeliner is taking a step further into bold; line your entire eye heavily with black.

You can add a heavy flicked-up cat eye, or just a simple ‘fingerprint’ smudge instead.

Speaking of eyes, also on-trend this year is a bold stripe of colour across the upper eyelid using either eyeliner or eye shadow – think emerald, teal, turquoise, bright orange, neon green, lilac, bright purple, and more.

Finally, glitter and metallics both show no sign of leaving the make-up world this year. Replace your traditional highlighter with a gold one, or if you aren’t quite ready for that bold step, use a metallic liquid lipstick.

Our shiny trend is taking a step up from tiny glitter to using rhinestones to line the eyelid or add accents to cheekbones.

Meanwhile, traditional glitter is taking a ‘less is more’ approach with a gentle sprinkle on the inside corner of the eye or on lashes.
