Toowoomba Regional Council is proud to partner with Telstra, USQ and TAFE Queensland to deliver the inaugural The Mayor’s Telstra Technology Awards 2018 exclusively to high schools in the Toowoomba local government area.
Open to students in Years 10 to 12 at schools across the Toowoomba region, the awards are a platform for bringing to life problem solving, design, technology and business.
Encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship, students grow their ideas through practical learning and mentoring with industry leaders.
The awards are looking for a new and creative use of technology or the next technological idea — it could be a new app, new concepts in social media, gaming technology or robotics.
It could be a smarter phone, watch or digital camera.
It could even be a revolutionary idea for transport, health, agriculture, security, conservation, construction, energy or recreation.
Perhaps, it could welcome the application of existing technology in a novel way to solve a community, environmental or business challenge.
With the importance of nurturing students to be innovative and collaborative, The Mayor’s Telstra Technology Awards 2018 encourages teamwork between students, gives students an opportunity to present their ideas to a wider audience and recognises their efforts and achievements.
Alongside this, it highlights the importance of study in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering Maths) fields for the future of the Toowoomba region.
The awards aim to foster a culture of entrepreneurship among young people in the region through connecting students with opportunities, the business community, camaraderie and support channels.
They provide students with valuable experience and knowledge in entrepreneurship, and offer incentives for them to take risks by exploring different opportunities. PHASE 1 ENTRIES CLOSE ON MARCH 16.
