Caring for your jewellery

Follow these care tips from Central Jewellers Toowoomba

Jewellery is precious and often sentimental too, so it pays to look after it properly. Here’s how to keep yours looking its best.

Diamonds

Because diamonds can easily scratch other jewellery, keep them in a fabric lined case.

Prevent damage by taking diamond jewellery off when doing rough work like gardening.

Diamonds should be cleaned regularly as natural skin oils can apply a film that reduces their brilliance.

Gemstones

Wipe precious stone jewellery with a clean, soft damp cloth after wearing.

With some gemstones such as opal, avoid salt water and chemicals like chlorine bleach, detergents, hairspray and perfume.

Gold

Store gold jewellery carefully to prevent scratching.

Remove your gold jewellery when bathing, showering or washing up.

Clean your gold jewellery as perfume, fluoride in water or the acidity in your skin can cause discolouration.

Silver

In time silver will tarnish. Clean with a mild soap and water solution, then pat dry with a soft cloth.

Avoid wearing silver in chlorinated water and store in a dry place.

Ask Central Jewellers about rhodium plating which can be a reliable and low-cost solution to keep your silver jewellery looking shiny longer.
