Breathtaking Gabbinbar Homestead wedding

-

Heidi Teitzel and Joel Marshall were married in a beautiful winter ceremony at Gabbinbar Homestead.

The couple met through family four years ago. “Joel is my cousin’s best friend,” Heidi says.

“We got to know each other as friends and then one Christmas it developed into something more. Everything we wanted in life was so similar, and our values and attitudes are the same.” Joel is equally enamoured. “Heidi is beautiful inside and out, she is the most caring and loving person to everyone around her,” Joel says.

Joel proposed to Heidi in Hawaii after a month-long holiday in the US.

“Joel took me to watch the fireworks and then we went to the best seafood restaurant on the island,” Heidi says.

“After we finished dinner we sat on the beach and Joel lit some candles and popped a bottle of champagne and then the question … I knew it was coming so it was hilarious – very awkward, not too serious, and just totally us.”

The couple married in a romantic and intimate ceremony in June. “We wanted a winter wedding because we both love the cooler weather,” Heidi says.

“We had a small guest list, which made it easy to spend quality time with our guests. The day ran so smoothly. Even the rainy weather added to our cosy winter wedding.”

The happy couple then celebrated their reception at The Conservatory at the homestead.

“We had the fires lit and sipped warm mulled cider. The table decorations and colours were natural and neutral – whites and shades of green. We brought a little bit of a winter woodlands vibe in with the deer antlers on the tipi and on our stationery. I would describe the theme as earthy but elegant.

“The day really was like a dream. Walking around together sharing a drink knowing we were now husband and wife, our energy and love instantly changed. It was so surreal and very cool.”

And if Heidi could offer any advice to couples getting married, it would be to plan the wedding they really want.

“Do what makes you happy and whatever will allow you to have your perfect day. Don’t focus your energy on other people’s opinions or comments,” she advises.

“STAY GROUNDED AND REMEMBER THE REASON YOU’RE PLANNING ALL THIS – IT REALLY CREATES A MAGICAL DAY THAT YOU WILL CHERISH FOREVER"
