BLACK PANTHER

-

Release date: February 15 Genre: Superhero Cast: Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Martin Freeman Running time: 134 minutes

THE latest instalment from the Marvel Cinematic Universe acts as somewhat of an origin story for the Black Panther superhero, introduced in 2016 film Captain America: Civil War. Chadwick Boseman plays T’challa, the Black Panther, who takes over as King of mystical African nation Wakanda, a technologically advanced nation that is isolated from the rest of the world. What makes the film stand out is at times you can’t really tell who is the hero or villain. You are often led to sympathise with the film’s main baddie, Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan). Within days of its release, the film was already certified 97 per cent fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and it’s not hard to see why. It is an exploration of oppression, racial politics and more.

This film is a game-changer for the superhero genre and will be remembered for years to come.
