Dancer attacked

A WOMAN has reported being punched from behind by an unknown man in the middle of a Darwin CBD nightclub.

Friends of the woman, who were with her at Mitchell St nightclub Monsoons when the incident took place on Thursday night, say that the man turned on the group when his dance floor advances were rejected.

The man grabbed the woman from behind at about 4am and knocked her to the ground when she tried to push him away, a friend said. He then allegedly punched her from behind, causing a cut to her ear.

‘‘I just jumped on his legs, I admit that, but it was more just self-defence. I was protecting her,’’ the friend said. The women and the alleged offender were both kicked out by bouncers.

The woman was taken by friends to hospital, where they say scans revealed she had a cracked rib.
