Arrests made in drug haul

TERRITORY police have seized as much as $850,000 worth of amphetamin­es in Katherine.

Detective Senior Sergeant Clint Sims from the Northern Investigat­ion Section said a vehicle was apprehende­d on Giles St at about 4pm Thursday.

He alleged police discovered 884.6g of an amphetamin­e- type substance under the back seat of the vehicle.

A man, 39, and a woman, 37, were taken into custody and charged with supplying a commercial quantity of amphetamin­e.

They were due to appear in court yesterday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Sims said the street value of the schedule II drug is estimated to be between $750,000 and $850,000.

‘‘ Police are extremely happy that these drugs have been seized, illegally produced amphetamin­e substances can cause serious harm, both psychologi­cal and physical addiction, hallucinat­ions and bizarre, aggressive and violent behaviour,’’ he said.

‘‘ We will continue to target the people dealing in these substances in the interest of harm minimisati­on and keeping people safe.’’
