Ron should take sprint by Storm

- JOSH SPASARO

AFTER blitzing the field last Sunday, Ron Phillips’ Storm Blazer will be the raging hot favourite for race three’s feature $1700 Sky Channel Division 1 Sprint at Winnellie Park tonight.

The two-year-old won last week’s Division 1 Sprint over 537m by a whopping 11½ lengths and is running the same distance tonight.

Storm Blazer has won his past two consecutive runs over the long distance. Bombay Rock (Andrew Lasker), Summer Chant (Jamie Hosking), Black Jungle (Richard Smith) and kennelmate Slainte will provide strong opposition.

Race one at 6.23pm seems an even contest, with veteran performers Arnhem Chaos (Phillips) and Hanson Harley (Graeme Scott) bringing some consistent form.

Although he finished third last week, Out There Jerry (Lasker) can bounce back in race two.

In race four, I’m Cast Bear (Nathan Toms) should improve after his first-up start in Darwin (fourth on January 29), while Slate ( Graeme Ferns) and Braddles (Phillips) have race experience.

In race five, Secret Gold (Russell Savige) has come off a feature-race third placing so a class drop is in his favour.

Hesitator (Scott) finds a suitable race with recent form solid for race six, while newcomer Sweet Crystal (Hosking) should be closely watched.

Winklee Jedda (Scott), Boobery (Joel Vansleve) and Reno Aden (Hosking) are the main threats in race seven.

Class performer and 2016 Greyhound of the Year, Arnhem Villain (Hosking) is the one to beat in race eight, particularly after drawing barrier one.

Underestimated two-yearold Hello I’m Mikey (Scott) never seems to run a bad race and drew to be thereabouts (box four) in race nine.

Faddeev (Chris Blackman) is well suited out wide in box seven for race 10.
