Police arrest five after meth raids in Darwin and Palmerston
A GIRL, 17, was among five people arrested in two separate meth raids in Darwin and Palmerston on Friday.
In a statement, police said the girl was charged with a string of six drug charges including supplying a trafficable quantity of methamphetamine.
The girl was also charged with a breach of bail and is due to appear in court on Monday.
“The NT Police are com- mitted to protecting the Territory from this terrible drug,” Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said
“Ice causes significant harm to the community and for us to take down five alleged dealers in one day is a great result.”
The girl’s two alleged co-offenders – a 27-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man – were also refused bail after police stormed their hotel room in Palmerston, seizing 5.8 grams of meth, $5000 cash, ice pipes, digital scales and a small amount of cannabis. The woman was also charged with possessing MDMA.
Methamphetamine often sells for as much as $1000 a gram when divided into small deals, making the drug trade more lucrative in the Territory than in any other state or Territory, according to Australian Crime Intelligence Commission figures.
Two men were arrested in an earlier raid in Rapid Creek, where police seized 7 grams of the drug and $1000 in cash, Detective Sen Sgt Stringer said. Those men, a 41-year-old and a 33-year-old, were charged with possessing methamphetamine and tainted property.
The 41-year-old was refused police bail and will appear in court on Monday, while the 33-year-old was granted bail and will appear in court on Wednesday.
Anyone with information about suspected drug dealers should call police on 131 444 or Crimestoppers: 1800 333 000.
