Kiwis sitting on continent
AUCKLAND: New Zealand might be positioned on a continent that no one knew existed, scientists say.
In a new study, a team of 11 geologists have argued New Zealand and New Caledonia are not actually a series of islands but rather part of one 4.9 million sq km continent called “Zealandia”.
The land mass is two-thirds the size of Australia and is 94 per cent under water.
“It’s rather frustrating for us geologists with the oceans being there,” scientist Nick Mortimer said.
