THAT’S SMOKIN’ Not just about black and grey, the smokey eye look has endless, colourful possibilities

- EMMA CRILLY

LIKE a little black dress, a smokey eye is a staple look that will never go out of fashion. You can achieve a smokey eye using most colours, not just black. I did this one using copper undertones that make any green and blue eyes pop.

I achieved this look using the Kylie Jenner Kyshadow palette in Burgundy (US$42), available from Kyliecosmetics.com.

First, always prep your eye using a paint pot — this will make your application so much easier and will stop any creasing. I apply Mac Paint Pot in Painterly ($35) all over the eye using Mac’s Blending Brush #217 ($37). I then used the Goldstone shade from the Kyshadow palette pressed on the lid using a flat eyeshadow brush — Mac’s #239 ($48). This is a beautiful bronze metallic tone ideal for any eye colour, but especially green or blue. Using the Tiger Eye shade with a matte finish from the Kyshadow palette, I blended the colour in the socket line and the outer corners using the Mac #217 ($37) Blending Brush. I then blended a little underneath the eye just along the lash line. To really highlight the brow bone and open the eyes I popped the Jasper shade from Kyshadow under the brow bone and in the inner corners of the eye. Smokey can make your eye look smaller, so adding highlighter to the inner corner of your eye helps prevent that. A slick of Mac Fluidline gel eyeliner in Blacktrack close to the upper lash line finished this look — I added a wing to elongate the eye. Use lashings of your favourite mascara and voila, you have the perfect smokey eye for any occasion.
