Tipsy On Red sets pace in victory

- JOSH SPASARO

JOCKEY Felicia Bergstrand credited Tipsy On Red’s toughness on his way to winning the $13,500 feature race one 0-64 Handicap (1300m) at Fannie Bay yesterday.

It was in April last year when the Kerry Petricktrained five-year-old was given his last spell, and he has appeared in 15 races since then.

“He’s been a very good horse and has been up for a long time. He’s due for a spell now,” Bergstrand said.

Tipsy On Red, the $ 2.50 favourite, beat Chris Pollard’s Brimarvi Cugat by half a length.

“He’s been a consistent horse. We decided to run him back-to-front – at the front of the pack instead of hanging back – and it suited him this time,” Bergstrand said.

“He changed his attitude and did well.”

Trainer-jockey Carl Spry pi- loted Mavericks to a one-length win over Jason Manning’s Macon County in the race two 54 Handicap (1200m).

Chris Pollard’s Chico Bubbles – ridden by Mel Tyndall – edged out Petrick’s Red Valazeel in the race three TROBIS Maiden Plate (1100m).

And Manning’s Douglassed won the race four Happy Birthday Lynn Jenner 0- 58 Handicap ( 1600m) by 1 ½ lengths over Peter Stennett’s Iwauna.
