GET THEE TO THE BALL
Nail this classic look for the busy social calendar that arrives with the Dry
Darwin’s ball season is heating up, with a few major events under the belt already and plenty more on the horizon as the wet season tails off. If you’re stuck in a makeup rut and always tend to play it safe, doing big event makeup the same as everyday makeup, now is the time to change.
I believe you can’t go wrong with a classic smokey eye and nude lip for fancy occasions. It’s a timeless style that will suit most looks. I decided to create this look for one of the two Territory Miss Universe finalists, Ashton Carbone.
Creating this look is all about prepping your eye, to ensure longevity.
Nobody wants a picture taken at the end of the night that shows them resembling a panda.
First, I prepped Ashton’s eyelids with MAC Groundwork Pro Longwear Paint Pot ($35). This is a beautiful soft, warm brown shade. Apply it to your lid first, then blend out softly to the crease. This will act as a seal on your lid.
To add some glamour, I applied MAC Eye Shadow in Woodwinked ($33).
This is a soft gold, high-shine product, and I only applied it to the lid.
To add definition in the crease I blended MAC Eye Shadow in Brown Down ($35). This matte, warm-brown shade is beautiful.
I also blended it to the outer corners of Ashton’s eyes, to elongate them.
To add a touch of smoke under the eye I used MAC Kohl Power Eye Pencil in Feline ($22.40).
This is the blackest pencil I’ve found and it is super-soft for your waterline.
I then softened the khol pencil with Brown Down eyeshadow under the eye, paired with lashings of mascara to finish this smokey feline look.
Usually, but not all the time, I like to pair a smokey eye with a soft, natural lip.
MAC Lip Pencil in Spice ($30) is the perfect pink tone that will suit most people.
Once your outline is precise and symmetrical, apply your lipstick to achieve this look.
I used MAC Lipstick in Kinda Sexy ($36), which is a lovely nude shade. But the best thing? It’s matte, which means it will survive the champers longer, darling.
