CHEYLENE AHNFELDT, 27 KYATAN ANGELUS, 30

Cheylene and Kyatan first met in Monsoons in 2014. “We then became friends, housemates and, not long after, lovers,” Cheylene said. It wasn’t long before Kye decided he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Cheylene and asked her to marry him in a beautiful NT-style. “We had planned a few days camping through Kakadu,” Cheylene said. “On the first day we climbed Ubirr to watch the sunset and Kye built up the courage to propose.” The big day went smoothly, but there was a quirky encounter on the way to the ceremony. “On the way there Kye pulled up at the lights behind a car with the numberplate ‘Plan B’ — he didn’t have one, of course!” Cheylene said. Family and friends from all over the country gathered in the tropical north to watch the pair tie the knot. “The highlight was marrying my best friend and seeing all our beautiful family and friends together,’ Cheylene said. “Our first dance was to Tim McGraw, ‘It’s Your Love’. It was a very proud moment to share and stand together as husband and wife.” The good news kept arriving after the big day. “We soon found out we were expecting our first child, Asha,” Cheylene said. “We were delighted, even though it meant the honeymoon was delayed, but we managed a quick trip to Stradbroke Island in Queensland.” THE ESSENTIALS MET Monsoons THE DRESS An ivory lace Miles Preston design CEREMONY McMinns Lagoon Recreation Reserve RECEPTION Northline Oval PHOTOGRAPHER Toni Walsh of Inspire Photography Darwin
