Lacklustre Suns on end of Giant-sized belting
SIX goals from Jeremy Cameron and five from 100-gamer Toby Greene has returned the Giants back to the winners list in style with a 102-point belting of the hapless Gold Coast Suns at Spotless Stadium.
The thumping was the Giants first ever triple point victory surpassing their 98-point win over Richmond last year.
After being on the receiving end of 12 100-point floggings through their first three seasons it was their turn to dish out the pain.
Cameron was back to his best after a mixed 2016, taking 11 marks and working his backside off for four quarters.
Greene’s five was the perfect celebration for his century and helped the premiership favourites return to form after being belted by 56 points by the Crows last week.
Steve Johnson booted three for the day but missed the chance to chalk up his 500th career major when his last quarter shot went just wide.
With Shane Mumford dominant in the ruck against Jarrod Witts the Giants easily won the clearances and their midfielders reaped the returns.
Josh Kelly was outstanding with three goals to go with his 27 possessions,
Dylan Shiel (28), Callan Ward (32) and Ryan Griffen (20) all feasted on the battling Suns.
Phil Davis did an outstanding job holding the talented Tom Lynch goalless.
The lack of supply was clearly frustrating the Suns coskipper who decided to take it out on his opponent.
There was no real damage done but he continues to sail close to the wind with his aggression. If Lynch were to cop a suspension it would be disas- trous for the struggling team who are already light on for onfield leaders.
Dual Brownlow medallist Gary Ablett looked a shadow of his former self picking up just 16 disposals. With performances like that and little hope for his team on the horizon it’s hard to see him sticking around past this year.
After flying out of the blocks kicking nine goals to one the Suns kicked five straight to close within 22 points early in the third quarter. But from there on it was all GWS who kicked 14 secondhalf goals
