SAM GALLETLY, 32 KURT BARBER, 31

IN TYPICAL Darwin style, Sam and Kurt shared a laksa with friends after tying the knot. “We were having dinner with a bunch of mates at Aymes and I half-jokingly asked if we could do the wedding there,” Sam said. “She loved the idea.” As the couple walked through the front door, Ayme tied their hands together with ribbon and blessed the union. Five months before the wedding, Kurt broke his ankle during a ski trip in Japan and was out of action for three months. He was still wearing a moon boot when he started dance lessons with long time local Audrey Grace “He was a pretty big legend for doing the dance lessons,” Sam said. Audrey was one of the 130 guests who attended the couple’s wedding. About 100 people travelled interstate for the event. “It was amazing, having so many friends and family from down South mixed in with all of our Darwin mates,” Sam said. For afternoon tea in the gardens, it was a family affair — with Kurt’s mum and Sam’s mum making sweet things they ate as kids. “Dad made about 6kg of Biltong,” Sam said. After the wedding, the couple went to South America for three months.
