Apprentice Brooks in induced coma after fall

-

DARWIN apprentice Kate Brooks is in an induced coma in Alice Springs Hospital after a fall at Pioneer Park yesterday.

The popular rider parted company with her mount Swingitlikesayers when he fractured a leg and fell near the winning post in the Darwin Horse Transport Handicap (1100m) — the second event on the program.

Brooks was unconscious but responsive, and was stabilised on-course before being transported to hospital. She was placed in an induced coma as is customary practice when a head injury is involved. Doctors are monitoring her condition.

Unfortunately, Swingitlikesayers had to be euthanised as a result of his injuries, and stewards have adjourned an inquiry into the incident.
