Drubbing for Districts as PINT piles on pain

- CARL PFEIFFER

A DASHING century from opening batsman Tim Garner followed by devastating spells of seam bowling by Matthew Bacon and Patrick Gallow has helped PINT to a massive victory over Southern Districts yesterday.

Garner smashed Districts’ bowlers all over the park on his way to 135 not out off just 142 balls, combining with Ben Reichstein (51) for a 122-run stand to lift PINT to an imposing total of 6/250 after their 50 overs.

Bacon then proceeded to tear through Districts’ batting order, taking 4/48 including the prized scalp of SA Redback and Brisbane Heat gun Alex Ross for a second-ball duck.

Gallow provided excellent support from the other end to finish with 4/28 as PINT knocked off their opposition for just 98.

In other matches, Tracy Village shocked Darwin to win a thrilling game at Kahlin Oval.

Village bundled the reigning premiers out for a belowpar 94, with in-form bowlers Nicholas Patterson, Corey Sinclair and Brandon King combining for nine wickets between them.

Darwin made Village work hard for the win however, with a five-wicket haul from skipper Luke Shelton putting the chasing side under pressure, eventually overhauling the target seven wickets down.

Opening batsman Hamish Martin played the perfect anchor role in the run chase, making a swashbuckling 45 from just 46 balls to ensure his side got over the line.

Waratah moved to the top of the table with an eight-wicket win over Palmerston.

The home side chased down the visitors’ score of 8/205 comfortably thanks to an excellent opening stand from Steve Taylor (69) and James Seymour (54).

Taylor said his side went into the match with a clear plan in mind.

“It rained earlier in the week so it was a crucial toss to win, We won it and sent them in,” he said.

“Credit to them, they got through a tough early period and posted a competitive score.

“With the field restrictions, we got a few away to the boundary early (during the run chase), I think we were about 80 after the first 10 overs.”

The final match of the round between the NT emerging players and Nightcliff takes place today.
