Locked up with no key
THE fabulous new Alice Springs Supreme Court building has been up and running a couple of weeks now and no one was more excited about the grand opening than NT Chief Justice Michael Grant. He was gleefully giving guided tours to everyone, including Criminal Lawyers NT head Russell Gold
flam. Chief Justice Grant took Mr Goldflam downstairs to show him the new holding cells when tragedy struck. The pair somehow got locked in a cell together for over an hour before someone happened by to free them. Bushranger reckons an hour behind bars is tough. Most young offenders are in and out of jail for 45 minutes, tops.
Little birdie says Budgie
TREASURER Nicole Manison is having a big month, delivering a budget and, any day now, a baby. Fifth floor and public service people have already named the baby. Their chosen name for the new bub: Budgie.
Small change for our Andy
THIS week, the NT News reported Darwin boy done good Andrew Liveris is pulling in $31 million a year as boss at Dow Chemical. Bushranger did the maths on what a Territorian could buy with all that cash — 167,598 NT numberplates personalised with “TRUMP”, or 70,1000 laksas at Parap every Saturday, or even 26,500 Paul’s iced coffees each and every day. It would also cover the cost of 62 feasibility studies into potential Darwin water parks.
Can’t muster up a judge
TRAGIC news for Territorian ute lovers this week with the cancellation of the Freds
Pass Rural Show ute muster. The muster was called off because the judge could not make the muster. Bushranger is appalled organisers couldn’t find another qualified ute enthusiast to take up the reins and prevent the cancellation of this treasured event. There must have been more than a handful of patrons who would have qualified as a “ute expert” within the showgrounds.
Only the best in Oz Navy
HMAS Coonawarra commanding officer Commander Viktor Pilicic was chatting to the media after the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea commemorations. When asked if he had anything else to add, Commander Pilicic replied: “Nope, I’m just an awfully good looking guy.” Modest, too.
Raised eyebrow gives tip
FORMER East Timor president Jose Ramos
Horta attracted a packed audience at the Railway Club on Thursday. He told the crowd of a meeting with former PM John Howard. “I’m an expert in body language,” he said, adding he easily could tell when Mr Howard was unhappy during negotiations. “He has very big eyebrows and one of them would lift a little,” he said. Later, Mr Ramos Horta suggested East Timor might claim sover- eignty of Australia, but wasn’t interested in Tasmania.
Light guides Mac to NT
SUNRISE weather presenter Sam Mac was in the Territory this week, visiting Uluru and showing off the second season of the Field of Light. Featured by Tourism NT, the weatherman ticked Uluru off his bucket list, took a camel ride and took a selfie with a mosquito on his nose.
