Looking after our families
NATIONAL Families Week — celebrated each year from May 15-21 — highlights the central role that families play in our communities.
The 2017 theme “Stronger Families, Stronger Communities”, promotes the important role families play as the building blocks of our communities and the message that community wellbeing is enhanced by family wellbeing.
Anglicare NT chief executive Dave Pugh said that even with their best efforts, many families struggled to meet their children’s physical and emotional needs, and were subject to social, economic and environmental forces seemingly beyond their control.
“By improving community support to these families, along with approaches which promote family self-reliance, families can be empowered to provide quality care and protection to their children,” Mr Pugh said.
“Anglicare NT recognises the importance of building welcoming and connected communities, able to care for individuals and families.
“Our activities aim to pro- mote healthy relationships and childfriendly communities, support youth at risk and reduce disadvantage.”
Their work across the Territory includes early childhood, child development, intensive youth and family support, accommoda t ion assistance, early i ntervention, and Out of Home Care.
“We also play a vital role in supporting Territorians with services that provide individual, couple and family counselling, mediation and parenting education courses,” Mr Pugh said.
