Sunday Territorian

Be bold, build it and they will come

-

THE Territory already wins more than its fair share of tourists both from Australia and abroad.

It is not hard to see why. The natural beauty of our landscape and the unique people that live here offer an experience you can’t find anywhere else in the world.

But we must keep enticing tourists in every way possible with bold and exciting entertainment and leisure strategies that boost our tourism market. Ideas for a zipline, abseiling, and “glamping” all sound great and will attract a significant amount of people to the Territory. Litchfield’s location, just an hour from Darwin, makes it readily available for adrenaline enthusiasts and those looking for luxury camping.

We can offer something for all age groups — from the serenity of our magnificent landscapes to the actionpacked adventures of abseiling and ziplining. But the ideas are just that until someone brave enough comes along and makes it happen. Now is not the time to be cautious. We must find better ways to boost our economy. We must actively seek our share of the Asian tourist dollar. Seeking direct flights from China is a great idea, as is building new, action-packed tourist attractions at Litchfield.

But until we convince investors to be bold, these ideas just tease us and our tourist operators.
