Although they’d always known of each other, Georgia and Reid didn’t properly meet until the Katherine races in 2013. They quickly hit it off and became a couple — then planned an epic trip to Europe together later that year. “It was amazing,” Georgia said. “We visited Italy, Hungary, Slovakia, Croatia, Dubai, the Czech Republic and Austria over the course of six weeks. We had the best time.” The saying those who travel together stay together rang true for Georgia and Reid, who poppped the big question in the middle of a Top End wet season. “He organised for us to hike up to Pat’s Lookout in Katherine Gorge early in the morning,” Georgia said. “It was so hot when we got to the top I went and sat under a tree to cool off. Reid came over, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was a massive surprise — I had no idea. We’d spoken about marriage but I didn’t expect it to happen so soon.” The gorge played a part in the wedding too, with stunning photos of the newlyweds taken using the landscape as a backdrop. Georgia’s horse, Debt, also had a starring role. “I’ve had him since I was three. He is now 25 years old,“she said. “It was so special to me to be able to have him around us on our wedding day and even more so to be able to get a photo with him.“Keen to keep their travelling bug happy, the couple, who got married in June, shot off on honeymoon immediately. “We are in the USA driving from LA to New York,” Georgia said. “We’ve hired an RV for five weeks and we’re staying each night in different little towns. So far we have been through Kings Canyon, Sequoia, Yosemite and Stanislaus National Parks — this park was a little scary to drive through as we were approximately 9500ft above sea level and encountered snow, a thunderstorm and strong winds that shook the vehicle on narrow, winding roads.” They also plan to visit Nevada, Wyoming, Yellowstone National Park and New York to visit Reid’s sister, before heading south to visit friends in New Mexico and Texas.
