The big show comes to Darwin
Full house as loyal fans turn out in force for Melbourne v Adelaide
NOTHING gets a Territorian fired up like a footy match and last night was no exception.
Fans donned their team colours as they flocked to TIO Stadium in Marrara to see the Melbourne Demons take on the Adelaide Crows.
It was a sellout crowd as more than 12,000 people turned out on a perfect dry season night to see the game.
The top tier premiership round match has been touted as the best game Darwin has had since games began being played up here.
With the Crows first on the leaderboard and the Demons hot on their heels in fifth place the game was a stellar show of skills.
Crowd favourites were Crows players Eddie Betts, Rory Sloane and Taylor Walker and Demons player Max Gawn.
Diehard Crows fan Liam Narcys was decked out in his supporter’s gear for the game.
He said he bought his ticket months ago when they were first released so that he wouldn’t miss out.
An Adelaide local, Mr Narcys has been following the Crows since 1991 when he was just three years old and even went to their first grand final game in 1997 where they took home the premiership cup.
Living up here for the year he said it was great that he was able to see his team play in the Top End.
“I guess I was just lucky enough to see them, I’ve come up to work here for a year and this is the first time they’ve played up here, so it’s worked out really well,” he said.
Back in Adelaide, he said “we would go and watch them five or six times a year”.
He said yesterday he believed the Crows would beat the Demons.
“Melbourne beat us last time at Adelaide Oval and that was a massive upset and they have a couple of injuries so I think we will win comfortably,” he said. “Revenge is definitely needed.”needed.
