FESTIVAL FUN IS ON TARGET WITH SOME BIG PRIZES AND EXQUISITE TROPHIES

- BART IRWIN

Next weekend the targets at the Festival of Clays will be so real you might think they have feathers and fur on them.

NT Field and Game is holding the biggest sporting clays event in the history of the Northern Territory.

The Five Stand Sporting NT Championship will start from noon on Friday. Fifty targets will be shot over two grounds with a mix of targets coming from up to six traps. A flush shoot may follow the presentations if there are plenty of hands to help with the setup of the simulated field for the next day.

On Saturday shooters will be able to dust off the old side-by-side shotguns and enter in the NT SxS Simulated Field Championship. This is a 75-target event shot over two laps of the course. The first lap will have 38 targets shot on nine stations through the bush landscape. The second lap is 37 targets. This event starts at 10am. Shooters are welcome to use an under and over shotgun for a smaller prize pool or practise on targets only.

Saturday night come along and enjoy a Greek-style spit roast banquet with a little bit of boot scooting thrown in for good measure.

The Festival of Clays culminates on Sunday at 8am with the 100T Simulated Field NT Championship.

This will be shot over two grounds with 50 targets shot on each lap. You won’t get a better clay target experience than this all year.

To top it off, every shooter gets a ticket for each event they enter to win a Fausti Camo 12ga U/O shotgun. Every shooter, no matter their standard or experience, has the same chance and opportunity to win the gun, valued at $1720 and kindly donated by Coolalinga Guns and Ammo.

If shooters buy a three-day pass they get a $25 discount on nominations and get three tickets to possibly win the gun.

Added to the door prize of a gun, Paul Manners has lovingly constructed his beautiful hand-made trophies. These are highly sought after and will accompany sashes for first place. All grades will win quality prizes for first, second and third.

Australian Simulated Field National champion Robert Hall is coming to town and holding a coaching course on Friday morning. All those that got in quick enough to secure a place in his shooting school are looking forward to.

Friday night practice continues at Micket Creek Shooting Complex, Brandt Rd, Knuckey Lagoon the week after the Festival of Clays. There are now two grounds with the token system in operation. The ranges will be open from 3pm on Fridays for those who plan ahead and pre purchase ammo and tokens. The sales desk normally opens at 5pm.
