Emergency division

LABOR Member for Katherine Sandra Nel

son had nothing to say at a presser with Health Minister Natasha Fyles where the Government announced a water emergency plan for the town. Bushie can’t help but wonder if she thinks her Government’s water emergency is real or just a publicity stunt. Given she thought the recent terrorist raids and arrests in Sydney were a convenient diversion from bad polling, maybe she was silent because she had the same thoughts about the Katherine presser.

Protest sizzles

MORE than 70 people gathered to protest funding cuts at Charles Darwin University this week. Banners were written and flags were waved. Of course, it wouldn’t be a university protest without a sausage sizzle as well.

Good question

AS a result of the very real terror threat, aircraft travellers are being advised to get to airports earlier. A weary traveller raised an interesting point with Bushie. He questioned the call for travellers to get to the airport two hours earlier if the check-in counters are not opening earlier to take your luggage.

Govt competition

WHY is the Territory Government competing with private enterprise? The Territory Wildlife Park, which is heavily funded by the Territory Government and taxpayers, is boasting about launching Stage One of Croc Headquarters. This is in direct competition with struggling Territory tourism businesses. Why? Territory businesses are doing it tough enough without the Territory Government trying to take away their customers.

Ed’s got star quality

TALKING of television stars, NT News editor

Matt Williams has received some high praise from television celebrity Bondi Vet,

Chris Brown, who visited the NT News office recently. Chris, who has a legion of adoring female followers, said Matt would make an excellent actor in a TV drama. Chris said Matt reminded him of a cross between Mar

lon Brando and Ben Stiller.

Secret birthday

FIFTY is traditionally a big birthday milestone often celebrated which plenty of fanfare. PINE GAP has turned 50 and not surprisingly the base’s half-century slipped by with the same amount of secrecy that has marked its use as a national and international security facility. Not even Chansey Paech, the local member for where the spy base sits, was invited to a quiet celebration.

Kezia helps out

NT Speaker Kezia Purick has a close relationship with her constituents. So close, in fact, her Facebook page can start to resemble an Agony Aunt service. This week, a resident asked, “Can someone tell me if we have a BEASTIALITY LAW in OZ ...?” Bushranger doesn’t want to know what prompted the question. Ms Purick correctly replied she was pretty certain bestiality was illegal.

Chief feeling his age

Spotted at Palmerston Shopping Centre signing a seniors groups petition calling for commonsense reform to the concessions issue was Chief Minister Michael Gunner and Local Member Tony Sievers. Not sure if other Government members there for the Community Caucus signed but the Chief Minister and Sievers definitely did.

Peris speaks Sein language

THE former Territory sprinter who had one of the quickest ever runs in the Senate,

Nova Peris, has eaten a hamburger with one of the world’s funniest men, Jerry Sein

feld. Ms Peris posted a photo of herself with the US comedian in Melbourne, saying she’d enjoyed a wine and burger with the bloke who famously wears sneakers and jeans to fancy engagements. Seinfeld was in Australia for a run of comedy shows — maybe he was looking for extra material and chose to tap into Ms Peris about her stint in politics.
