Caulton tries help keep Nightcliff’s finals ambitions alive

- JACK HISLOP

FOUR tries to youngster Darren Caulton helped Nightcliff to a 62-4 win over South Darwin at Warren Park yesterday.

The Dragons entered the clash wanting to respond after suffering a 50-0 defeat at the hands of the Northern Sharks last week.

That loss dropped Nightcliff out of the top four, meaning they had to win yesterday to keep their faint finals hopes alive.

On the other hand, the winless Bunnies came off one of their better performances of the season against Katherine where they led by two points at half time.

However, starting with 13 men, Souths found it difficult to control Nightcliff and they raced to a 32-0 half time lead. Caulton had bagged a double by that point, as had fiveeighth Brad Sneddon. Wade Daly and Stefan Dippel also crossed the stripe before the interval.

Souths did get across in the second half through Nemiah Dai. However, Nightcliff continued to dominate as Caulton went in for two more. He was joined by Wes McDinny and Jake Lockett.

In other NRL NT fixtures, Palmerston had a good win against Katherine 42-22 while the Northern Sharks had a close tussle with their Litchfield rivals winning 30-24.
