Essington unleashes firepower
ESSINGTON r ecorded another convincing win in Darwin Basketball Men’s Championship action on Friday night — its fifth straight victory — but Eagles still want to be a part of the premiership picture.
And they proved they won’t go away with a 110-72 win over Tracy Village, star American guard Anthony Golden hitting five three-pointers on his way to 37 points.
The Cannons outdid them though, with a ruthless 137-84 thrashing over Lightning.
Their three key imports fired, Deba George (29 points with five three-pointers), Deola D’Brown Folarin (28 points) and Tobiasz Hose (20 points) leading the way.
But Essington would have also been delighted with big Travis Ellis’ contribution of 30 points.
Also on Friday night, Palmerston beat Razzle 85-77, Willie Shackleford leading the way with 29 points.
The Power took on the Uni Rebels last night, while the Jets v Ansett and Razzle v Lightning also played.
In Women’s Championship action, 11-time reigning champions the Jets were still smarting after their 77-68 loss to Eagles back in Round 3.
They responded with a huge 86-43 win on Friday night.
Tikesa Docherty-Cole led the way with 28 points.
