K-Rudd is a fan

Ousted former Aussie PM Kevin Rudd has decided to head back to uni. In Oxford for that matter. A bushie spy who happens to also be studying at Oxford University went to an event where Kevin ’07 gave a speech. Old Kevin must have thought he was far enough from Darwin to tell porky pies as he proceeded to tell the audience that he had spent a lot of time in Top End and had even helped the good folk at the NT News begin their era of colourful headlines.

Prison grub

COULD be trouble brewing for the NT Government in the Buy Local space. Word on the street is that local company Halco has lost the contract it had to supply food to the Darwin Prison to an interstate company.

No Google love

Darwin council has disappeared off Google with the search engine only offering responses for Darebin council in Melbourne. Despite council being made aware of the perceived spelling error, Google has not yet fixed the issue.

Where the ** is Alice?

ON Thursday, NT Planning Commission chair David Ritchie was in Alice Springs launching consultation on the new Central Alice Springs Area Plan. In his media interviews, Mr Ritchie introduced the plan — not once, but twice, — as the Darwin Area Plan. Third time was the charm for remembering where he was. No wonder Central Australians sometimes feel second best to Darwinites.

PFAS cash in

THE PFAS contamination in Katherine has become a battle of the legal firms spruiking class action. Maddens Lawyers and Shine

Lawyers have been busy pitching to residents about how a class action works and how their legal firms can help them. There is even going to be a public meeting this week.

Crossed wires

THERE were a few annoyed looks when AFLNT chief executive Michael Solomon failed to join an NT Government presser with Sports Minister Lauren Moss on Friday. Not averse to the sound of his own voice Solomon stayed in his office expecting the minister to come to him. Moss announced $4.1m and another $350,000 for cameras which Solomon had talked about on ABC Radio earlier in the day stealing the Minister’s thunder.

Royal visit

THE son of ex-Greek king Konstantine slipped into Darwin this week. Prince Nikolas caught up with our new Greek Lord mayor Kon Vatskalis and Deputy Chief Minister Nicole Manison over dinner.

Good for the goose

BUSHIE was sent this little reminder by a reader of the hypocrisy that often occurs when a party is in Opposition and then comes to government. Chief Minister Michael Gunner often says “My Government is investing in the Territory’s arts and cultural assets to attract more visitors.” However when in Opposition Michael Gunner slammed the CLP Government accusing it of destroying the beautiful ambience and icon- ic future of the Frog Hollow Park Heritage and Art Precinct. Mr Gunner and his government are now going to build a major arterial road in the area of Frogs Hollow.

Nobody is perfect ...

LAWYER Peter Maley passed on these words of wisdom on Friday in court where he has been representing former Litchfield Shire chief executive Lian Wilson. Mr Wilson faced charges over misuse of a council credit card when he travelled to Melbourne where he met up with a work colleague he was having a sexual relationship with. “We’re all imperfect men,” Maley said.
