JARRAD DICKSON, 23 TINA DICKSON, 26

Jarrad and Tina met in February 2014 when they both started studying medicine at Charles Darwin University, through the Flinders University program. Less than a month later, the university organised a trip to Katherine for the students, and the pair become close friends. Tina said she originally didn’t see herself dating Jarrad, let alone marrying him. “No, definitely not,” she laughed. “We were just really good friends.” But last year the couple decided to see if there was anything romantic between them, and so began the story of their love. “Our first date was a little bit different because we actually went to church together and then we just went around the Todd Mall Markets down in Alice Springs,” Tina said. “We were based down there, we’re up in Darwin now but we’ll head back down to Alice next year.” Despite having only dated for a few months, the couple knew what they had was special, and Jarrad began dropping hints he was thinking about proposing. “I didn’t know how or when he was going to propose but I already knew we were going to get engaged because he’d asked me what my ring size was and we’d been looking at engagement rings together,” Tina said. “He chose the ring ultimately and I love it.” The actual proposal took place in Adelaide in September. “We were in Alice Springs and decided to go down to Adelaide for a week off from school so we drove down and visited my family,” Tina said. “We had dinner with my family and then went up to Windy Point to watch the sunset and he proposed there.” When it came time for the wedding, the relaxed couple didn’t want to do much. “We had the day off from placement because we both wanted something small and so we decided to go to the registry office,” Tina said. “We had lunch with our Maid of Honour and Best Man at Sweet Brew and Co and vegged out there for a while and then went home to get ready. “Afterwards we went to Cullen Bay and had fun blowing up some air mattresses — one of them popped — and then had a nice dinner. “It was a very nice day, very relaxed.” The couple honeymooned at Lake Argyle in WA.
