Campaign fund

MORE than a year after the Territory elections, Member for Brennan Tony Sievers is still getting handouts. The Palmerston MLA launched the GoFundMe last year to help him through his election campaign, but never took it down. He’s only raised $540 from nine pro-Tony donors – but is still a long way from his $10,000 target. To donate, or to check it out, visit – https://www.gofundme.com/245vuyks

Xmas pool party spirit

THE Christmas season is rapidly approaching, leaving Darwin Council to debate its Christmas plans. With no money going to the suburbs this year, aldermen George Lambrinidis, Rebecca Want de Rowe and Jimmy Bouhoris have put their hands in their pockets to fund the Casuarina pool Christmas Pool Party. Good on them for getting into the spirit of giving!

Another brick in the wall

AFTER more than a year of sad introspection over the state of youth detention and crime in the Northern Territory, Royal Commission big wigs Margaret White and Mick Gooda published their long-awaited report. As Chief Minister (and police minister) Michael Gun

ner was on stage at Parliament House grovelling and describing the youth justice system as “a stain on the NT’s reputation” one of his minions in the police hit send on an awkwardly timed press release. “Members from Strike Force Winx have charged a 15-year-old male for property offences in Alice Springs ... he was remanded in custody to appear in the Alice Springs Local Court.”

Only in the NT

ONE of Bushy’s friends recently bought a troop carrier to take on longer camping trips and had parked it in the CBD. Upon return he saw the dreaded white note on the windscreen but to his surprise it was not a parking ticket but an invitation. “Looking for a lift to Broome, do you go there :) call me” and then gave a mobile number. The invite refreshingly reminds Bushy of the welcoming old school days when there was little to fear and people could rely on others to help them out so long as they asked. It appears that spirit is alive and well in the Territory, albeit it does seem lost almost everywhere else.

Where’s Will?

TERRITORY rugby league hero Will Cham

bers helped power his nation to victory against Samoa but the commentators appear to have been a tad confused about his origins. Granted, they did know he was from the NT but one commentator was heard to say he was from southern, Northern Territory. I’m sure his home community of Nhulunbuy would be surprised they are considered to be in the south of our great land.

Kicking up a stink

THE medicos at RDH this week told us there was an outbreak of Norovirus at the hospital. Norovirus is the medical equivalent of unplugging the back end. It turned out Bushranger could have had the scoop if he had checked his emails. A day before the medical authorities told us of the outbreak, hospital source wrote: “They have laid out some beautiful Astroturf, I think someone important is coming today, and someone came along and laid a massive steamer on it.”

Shooting star

IT seems it is not just fans who are salivating about what the new year has in store for the Top End film industry. Territory starlet Mi

randa Tapsell once again confirmed her excitement via Twitter about her new show

Top End Wedding which will shoot in Kakadu, the Tiwi Islands and Katherine early next year.
