MARKET MADNESS As the Christmas season descends on the region, stalls filled with festive fashion are popping-up across the Territory

- GEORGINA GEORGINA MURPHY MOLLARD FASHION

RUDOLPH might be polishing his shiny red nose accessory ready for the festive season, but if you’d like Santa to bring you something a little more unique down the chimney this year, look no further than the array of pop up stores and markets taking place between now and Christmas.

Here’s a quick list to prepare the style sleigh for and get ready to spend:

Social enterprise Magpie Goose, a local brand using textiles from indigenous communities that was established less than 12 months ago is leading the Christmas charge. Like the namesake bird the brand is named, Magpie Goose designs are loud. They’re popular too!

The brand’s first range included bright, bold textiles from Palngun Wurnangat (Wadeye), Injalak Arts (Gunbalanya), Tiwi Design (Wurrumiyanga, Tiwi Islands) and Bábbarra Women’s Centre (Maningrida).

Magpie Goose was crowd funded, exceeding its initial fundraising goal asking for $20,000 — the flock was funded to the tune of $100,000.

The brand has single-handedly taken indigenous textiles to new audiences across Australia, and that’s something worth tweeting like a bird about.

Each textile design brings with it a story and the unique style, and colour combinations are a fresh gift idea for your fashionable friends and family members.

Browse and buy the range on Saturday December 2 at 26 Martin Crescent, Coconut Grove from 3pm to 7pm.

And the Darwin CBD markets will provide a fashionable farewell to 2017 on Friday December 1, with a Christmas vibe and all the trimmings that the monthly market, hosted by the Darwin City and Waterfront Retailers Association, have become known for since their inception this year.

Alice Springs is hosting its Christmas Carnival on the same evening in the Todd Mall. And the most practical of all? The aptly named ‘Escape the Wet’ pop up markets at Coolalinga Central, each Friday afternoon from 4pm until December 22. Home to shopping treats and live entertainment.
