KATE O’MULLANE, 30 DAVID SUAREZ, 34

IT was truly love at first sight for David and Kate, who met at a mutual friend’s place during a pizza night. “He was good friends with one of my best friend’s husband. I went over for a pizza night and that’s where we met,” said Kate. The couple have been “virtually inseparable” from the moment they first met, and it was only six months before they were engaged to be married. David popped the question in a hotel room in Gold Coast, much to Kate’s surprise. She claims she definitely didn’t see the proposal coming. “We spoke about it, but no, I didn’t think it would happen right then”, she said. The couple, who experienced a fairytale romance, officially tied the knot on November 10 this year. The rustic-style wedding ceremony and reception were both held at Coolibah Downs Private Estate in the Gold Coast, where the happy couple was surrounded by around 70 family members and friends. David is from the Gold Coast, while Kate was born and bred in Darwin. “My family travelled from Darwin and Sydney and we had lots of friends come from around Australia, and a good number from Darwin,” said Kate. The couple haven’t yet been able to escape their busy careers long enough to have a honeymoon. “We both own our own businesses so taking the time off to go to the Gold Coast was hard enough, especially around this time of year,” said Kate. However, they definitely have plans for where they would love to travel together. The couple are hoping to head to Tuscany and Spain next year if possible, which will be extra special as David is of Spanish descent. For now, they are content enjoying their lives as happy newlyweds in Darwin.
