Bikers bringing Christmas cheer to Top End
IT was a sound for sore ears as hundreds of motorcycles roared throughout Darwin as part of this year’s Salvation Army Toy Run.
About 300 Darwinites converged on the NT Motorcycle Centre yesterday with dozens of children’s toys strapped to their prized bikes for the annual appeal.
Mark Wilson was one of many Territorians who blew out the cobwebs on a HarleyDavidson for the great cause.
“The Toy Run is not only a bit of fun, but a great way to give back to the community,” he said. “It’s also a great opportunity to meet people from different backgrounds.”
Salvation Army Toy Run co-ordinator Rob Thomas said around 600 individual gifts were donated this year.
“It’s pretty amazing seeing the Salvos truck at the end of the day just full of toys,” he said.
“Everything we do today is for the kids – as well as collecting toys we also raise around $2000 for the Salvos through our raffles.”
