TAMARA first caught Justin’s eye when they were both working as residential assistants at Kormilda College. He soon sent over a mutual friend to ask if he could have her phone number. Almost exactly four years later, on October 19, 2013, Justin popped the question while they were on a weekend road trip to Kakadu National Park. However, Tamara said his proposal didn’t quite go according to plan. “So apparently I ruined his plan,” she laughed. “He was meant to propose to me at Ubirr Rock at sunset, and I couldn’t be bothered carrying our stuff all the way up.” But Justin quickly found a way around this temporary glitch in his plan. He asked Tamara to go and get his clothes out of the car. Little did she know that the ring was hidden in the pocket of the jeans she was carrying. When she got back to the room, I Think I

Want To Marry You by Bruno Mars was playing, and Justin proposed. “We actually sat and had tea that night and I was asking ‘when are we going to get married?’ and all that stuff,” said Tamara, who was definitely surprised that the proposal happened that very night. The year after the proposal, they welcomed their first daughter, Kiyomi, and in January this year they chose October 21 as the date they would finally tie the knot. This date marked the day after the anniversary of Justin and Tamara’s first date back in 2009, when they went to get fish and chips at the Stokes Hill Wharf. The couple celebrated with 50 close family members and friends and Kiyomi played the role of flower girl. “We had a small intimate ceremony at Jervois Park on the grassed lawn overlooking the ocean. We then went to the Vibe Hotel at the Waterfront for drinks and canapés,” Tamara said. Shortly before the wedding, Justin, Tamara and Kiyomi experienced their first overseas family holiday in Bali. Then, after the wedding, the newlyweds had a mini-honeymoon at the Adina Waterfront Apartments for two nights, completely child free.
