ALL THAT GLITTERS
Your complete NT New Year’s party guide
IT’S impossible to be grumpy around fireworks, according to cracker enthusiast Dacqmar Guascoine.
“I love the fireworks – the atmosphere they create,” she said.
Lucky for Ms Guascoine – and thousands of Territorians heading out tonight to ring in the new year – there will be plenty of places throughout the Territory to see them.
SkyCity will have a cracking midnight show as part of its Bourbon Street New Year’s Eve Party.
Darwin Waterfront will have a children’s fireworks display at 9pm, and a big midnight fireworks finale.
Musicians and children’s entertainers will keep crowds in the festive spirit at the Waterfront. The alcohol-free and glass-free event will feature a Paw Patrol show, numerous artists and food stalls.
Jade Jenkins and kids Thomas, 6, Jacob, 5, Oliver, 4, and Isabel, 2, are heading into the city tonight.
“The kids are excited – we definitely all know the (Paw Patrol) theme song,” she said.
“The fact we can come as a family and watch the fireworks, grab something to eat and celebrate together is a big drawcard.”
Families are encouraged to pack a picnic blanket and soak up the atmosphere. While the grassed area is booze-free, numerous licenced venues will be serving up champagne for those looking to celebrate.
Free buses will operate in and around the city from 7pm to 7am. Mitchell St is expected to attract thousands of partygoers, with most watering holes along the strip hosting a party. For those not keen to head into the CBD, The Beachfront Hotel and Dinah Beach Club are hosting events.
Past Berrimah, Arch Rival Palmerston is hosting a Drag Territory performance and Palmerston Golf Course will be celebrating in style.
In typical Territory fashion, many will spend the weekend outdoors – camping and fishing in various locations around the NT. Others will be staying in – swigging champagne on the couch or ringing in the New Year at a house party.
Darwinites can expect a low chance of rain today, with a max of 34C.
In Palmerston, there’s a max of 35C, with a slight chance of afternoon showers.
