Gunner go for gold

TERRITORIANS may get a shock when the Commonwealth Games swimming is on in April. Bushie has learned that Michael Gun

ner is competing! Well, it’s not actually Michael Gunner the Northern Territory Chief Minister, it’s Jamaica’s up-and-coming swimmer Michael Gunner. He is just one of a number of people who have the same name as Territory politicians. We also have a Lauren Moss, who is an executive with Lego, and a Nigel Scullion a lawyer in Scotland.

Light it up over grounds

THE stoush over lighting on Gardens Oval number 1 is continuing but there may be fires about to start on new fronts. The Darwin Council will soon be undertaking a community engagement process to seek community opinion on sports lights at suburban Nightcliff and Bagot Oval. The engagement process will start late January for a six-week period.

Crocodile whispers

NEWS a 3m croc had been spotted in Rapid Creek started a startling game of Chinese whispers in offices around Darwin this week, with the beast’s length increasing by orders of magnitude on each retelling. By the end,

Bushy overheard the shocked reactions reaching epic proportions — “15m at Rapid Creek!?” they cried. But why let the truth get in the way of a good story?

Dollar each way

IN response to questions over storm activity in Central Australia, the boffins at the Bureau of Meteorology were particularly helpful with their statements. “Thunderstorms can either move quickly or slowly depending on the environment,” they commented. Bushy thinks the boffins are either taking the piss out of us all or are geniuses. Either way, they have got the art of not ever being wrong down to a fine art, and for that we salute you.

Onya bike Kris

NORTHERN Territory-based sea nomad Kris

Larsen attracted international attention when he and his tiny boat had a little mishap and he was forced to hitch a lift off the coast of Hawaii during the week. Kris is well known for being an old sea dog but he is equally nomadic while on shore. He cycles everywhere and once covered 5000km of the Australian outback, pedalling from Darwin down the Gibb River Road, Tanami Highway and Oodnadatta Track and back home. He did a similar 5000km ride around six coun- tries sharing the Kalahari Desert.

Poor baby

NT News and Sunday Territorian picture editor Justin Kennedy had a late night on New Year’s Eve embedded with a team of Territory cops to watch the mayhem unfold. But he dutifully turned up to work again the next day, a little worse for wear. All who encountered Kennedy copped an earful about how tired he was and how he was suffering from blisters from his new shoes. Including the mum of Darwin’s very first baby of 2018. The new mother, who was still in labour when Kennedy was tucked up in bed, was very sympathetic.

Fish out of water

WORLD famous Territorian croc wrangler

Matt Wright has had a big year. His hit show has gone from strength to strength and he married the love of his life. However, Bushy hears the tough lad has not been coping well with the icy weather of New York while on business to promo the new season of his National Geographic show.
