Will says there’s a way Absent Farrer confident Districts can avenge only loss to Waratah

- GREY MORRIS V

SOUTHERN Districts co-captain Will Farrer will not be part of the Crocodile side which tackles Waratah today at TIO Stadium.

But the big leaping spearhead will be watching and listening to every kick from his home in Western Australia’s Kimberley Region.

The league’s leading goalkicker with 39 goals, Farrer will miss the 5pm clash due to family commitments over the Christmas-New Year break.

But it has not stopped him from warning his teammates to switch on from the first bounce against a Waratah side with an eye firmly on finals football.

Districts’ only stumble this season was at the hands of Waratah, a five-point loss at the Marrara ground on the back of a five-goal haul by Tah’s Kim Kantilla.

“We took a half of footy to get going that night and we can’t afford to let that happen again with Waratah up and about,’’ Farrer said.

“We trailed by a couple of goals at halftime and couldn’t get back. All credit to Waratah but we definitely weren’t at our best that day.’’

The Crocodiles get Peel Thunder pair Leroy Jetta and Gerald Ugle back for the matchup between the first and fourth-placed sides on the league ladder.

Waratah has not lost a game since the middle of November when at the wrong end of a 35-goal shootout at Gardens Oval.

Wins over Wanderers, Districts and St Mary’s have followed, eased slightly by a draw against Palmerston at TIO Stadium.

The revival has come about through a big slice of self belief built from winning and the skills of Horsham recruits Sam Weddell and Brock Orval. FB HB C
