There’s no need to forget candles just because we live in warmer climes – these beauties will enhance any Territory home

- STORY KATE BOWDEN

Gotta love a little candle in your casa in the summer: adding a little sweet scent to the air to mask the BO when the temperature’s just too high. I’m KIDDING! Well, maybe not completely kidding but the high season brings with it a slew of candle scents you just can’t get away with in colder weather. Coconuts and frangipani just ain’t a natural fit with wool sweaters.

So what I’m saying is, take full advantage now of sweet, juicy scents and cast yourself as queen of the summer flame.

1 Glasshouse Tahiti candle: Reminding us all of where we’d rather be, Glasshouse is an Aussie staple for bringing the scent of exotic beaches and hitting the resort buffet with all abandon.

This delicious number is fruitier than a blogger’s acai bowl, with notes of coconut, mandarin, lily and jasmine, all tempered with bergamot, amber and musk. $42.95, glasshousefragrances.com

2 Circa Home Blood Orange: Admission: I can stand transfixed at fruit stalls for hours looking at blood oranges cut in half, exclaiming at their colour.

I think they are the coolest fruit. So my excitement of having the sharp tang of one scenting my room was inevitable.

This one, joined by notes of lemon and grapefruit and tempered by jasmine and musk is a fantastic substitute for a fruit salad, which is a dismal excuse for dessert, IMHO. $29.95, circahome.com.au

3 Ellis Brooklyn Fable: Terrific candle. This one is incredibly uplifting with its notes of honeysuckle and violet wrapped in amber and cedarwood.

Inspired by the moral of Aesop’s fables: kindness, this one has me detouring around the house to get closer to the candle for yet another sniff test. Delightful. $88, mecca.com.au
