Finals-bound Buffettes in 98-point pasting of Nightcliff

- GREY MORRIS

THE Darwin Buffettes got the best possible preparation for next week’s Women’s Premier League finals when they beat Nightcliff by 98 points in the last home-and-away round.

The Buffettes made light work of the wet conditions at PSC BM Oval, booting 15.8 (98) to the Tigers’ nothing in a performance coach Matt Large described as “satisfying’’.

Michaela Roberts, Chevaunne Fewings — in her comeback match after an injury-enforced absence — and Bianca Stokes were all good contributors in forward roles as the premier got ready for another bout with Waratah in next week’s qualifying final.

Large was pleased with the win, saying every player had done something.

“They were tough conditions out there and we came through it well,’’ Large said. “It sets us up nicely for Waratah in our first final.’’

St Mary’s beat the season’s big improver Palmerston by 17 points after trailing by two goals at the end of the first quarter. But the green jumpers bounced back in the second term, booting 4.4 to nothing in a quarter coach Jarred Ilett said won his side the game.

PINT jumped up one spot to fifth with its 23-point win over Southern Districts at Fred’s Pass.

Norbuilt Oval’s playing surface was in good condition despite the rain, providing the fans with a spirited contest.

The Queenants booted six of their seven goals in a scintillating second term, Samantha Freeman booting two of them to seal the game.

Ellie Ryan across half forward, Katie Streader around the ball and Cassie Henderson in the back half were the best for PINT, who play St Mary’s in the first week of the finals.

Wanderers beat Tracy Village by seven points at the Village ground.
